The Ghana Police Service has given the green light for a public protest against the Governors and Board of the Bank of Ghana.

The protest, organized by the Minority Caucus in Parliament, is scheduled to take place on July 30, 2024.

According to a letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police and Regional Commander, Accra, Arhin Kwasi Annor, the protest will begin at Obra Spot and end at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum.

The letter states that “the route of your protest shall be from Obra Spot-Adabraka Farisco Ridge Roundabout National Theatre Traffic Light- High Court Complex, then branch to Atta Mills Highway and terminate at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum.”

The Police have also instructed the organizers to select ten protestors to present the petition to the authorities.

The Police have assured the organizers of their cooperation and commitment to maintaining law and order during the protest.

“The Command assures you of our continuous cooperation and commitment to maintain law and order for the intended public protest within the mandate of the Ghana Police Service,” the letter said.

The organizers have also been cautioned to ensure that there is no breach of peace and that protestors conduct themselves in a peaceful manner before, during, and after the protest.

This protest follows a previous demonstration, #OccupyBoG, on October 3, 2023, where the protesters’ effort to directly deliver the petition to the Governor was frustrated when the head of security received it instead.

The Minority has been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the BoG’s policies and operations, and this protest is a continuation of their efforts to hold the Governor accountable for the country’s economic woes.

With a strong determination to have their voices heard, the Minority MPs and their supporters are ready to take to the streets once again, demanding answers and action from the BoG Governor.
