The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has restored power to communities in Yilo Krobo and Lower Manya Krobo municipalities after days of blackout.

The residents in the affected communities in the Eastern Region town were without power supply for a week after the power distributor cut power to the area.

However, on the afternoon of Sunday, December 12, 2021, power was restored in the areas affected, prompting jubilation among the residents.

The ECG cut initiated a move to pack out of the area after residents threatened the staff of ECG over error reading metres supplied to them.

The ECG also said the power cut was due to unpaid bills and widespread illegal connections.

The ECG had planned to permanently relocate their offices, however, the Minority appealed to the power distributor in a statement on Friday, December 10, 2021.

The Minority said while it acknowledges the need to safeguard and protect the networks, lives and properties of the ECG and its staff, it is untenable to subject innocent people to what it calls “collective punishments”.

“This unfortunate situation has resulted in untold hardship which has the potential of affecting security and the very survival of the inhabitants within the affected communities,” the Minority said in the statement.

The Minority then appealed to the chiefs and people in the two municipalities to dialogue with the ECG on the way forward.

Meanwhile, over the weekend the Inspector General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare visited the affected communities to engage with stakeholders on the matter.

He cautioned the youth against the destruction of properties and attacks on his men.

He warned the Police will not spare persons who would engage in lawlessness.
