The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has said two of its power towers in the Western Region are unable to transmit power because a communication mast fell on them on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
In a statement issued to the press today, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, the power transmitter said the communication mast collapsed and fell on the 330kV Aboadze-Kumasi transmission line, resulting in the collapse of the towers adjacent to the mast.
“The incident happened near Bogoso in the Western Region. This has affected the national power system and may result in some load management,” the statement alerted the public.
GRIDCo said its engineers were working around the clock to replace the fallen towers within the shortest possible time.
“GRIDCo is committed to maintaining a stable network for reliable and efficient power delivery. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the power transmitter stated.
GRIDCo transmits electricity from wholesale power suppliers or power generating companies to bulk customers such as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Northern Electricity Department (NED) and the Mines.
GRIDCo did not specify the extent these fallen transmission towers will affect electricity transmission activities but the statement suggests that this will most likely cause intermittent power cuts across the country.
GRIDCo shared the following photos of the fallen power transmission towers with the press statement.
