President Nana Akufo-Addo speaks about the Kintampo disaster

President Nana Akufo-Addo took to Facebook to express his sadness over the Kintampo Waterfalls disaster which claimed about 18 lives.

The President who is away in Switzerland for the Africa CEO Forum also sympathized with the families of the deceased students.

He said, “I have learnt with great sadness, the unfortunate incident that occurred at Kintampo Waterfalls. My deepest condolences to the families of all those affected by this unfortunate and tragic incident.”

The incident was reported to have occurred at about 4.30pm after a heavy tree with countless branches fell on the students while swimming at the falls.

Aside those who died, many others have been injured and currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in the Brong Ahafo region.

One of the students who survived and spoke on the condition of anonymity said "the incident happened so fast that they could not escape."

"This is very sad after hearing some of my friends died and it would be very difficult for me to visit such places again,"he added.
