The Korpehem D/A Basic School at Ada in the Greater Accra region is virtually under trees as rainstorm ripped off the roofing of the entire school block a month ago.
Pupils have since been studying under trees and the situation has made teaching and learning at the school inefficient.
Other items that were destroyed by the rainstorm include administrative record books, pupils text books and library books. The school is in dire need of assistance to ensure that studies goes on smoothly.
According to sources, the Assemblyman of the area and other authorities that were contacted claimed that, until a new District Chief Executive(DCE) is appointed, nothing could be done about the situation.
“National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) officials in the area who witnessed the disaster said, they have to follow procedures before they help us,†the source disclosed.
The situation also demands immediate attention as it has affected student’s attendance and unbearable for teachers who are exposed to the sun and dust.
“This is very unbearable especially for the Kindergarten pupils who are taught in an open dusty compound with insufficient shade,†the source added.
The school have written to some cooperate organizations in the country for assistance but yet to receive any form of help.
They are now calling on government to come to their aid as the situation is seriously affecting education in the area.
Also, confirming the situation, outgoing DCE of Ada East, John Ahortu said the entire building needs renovation and possibly a new structure.
“There are cracks in the building and would require an entirely new structure but I cannot do much since I am not in office now,†he stated.
He admitted that, it is a very difficult situation for the pupils and teachers and requires urgent attention from government.
