The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery has stated the Northern Regional town of Bimbilla may not receive funds for the ‘1m dollars per constituency’, ‘1 district 1 factory’ if the chieftaincy dispute in the area does not abate.

There were renewed clashes between the Dasana and Nakpa Na factions in the Bimbilla chieftaincy dispute last month and has seen the deployment of troops to the area and a review of the curfew hours in the area.

According to the Interior Minister, with the current situation, government may have no other choice than to use the funds to pay for the deployment of troops who are keeping law and order inthe area.

“...Moving forward, what is going to happen is that the 1m dollars that is going to go to Bimbilla is going to be spent in solving the problems of Bimbilla and providing one district one factory and one village one dam we going to end up spending that money in supporting troops on the grounds”, he said in an interview with Accra-based Starr FM on Thursday.

On the reports that there were some political party undertones in the dispute,  Mr. Dery said he is not aware of any political backing of the factions in fuelling the attacks as rumours suggest.

“No side is supported by the government and the NPP for that matter and I’m not aware that any other party is supporting any side as far as I’m concerned. I assure you that deployment has been across board.”
