A son of the client whose complaint to the General Legal Council (GLC) led to the suspension of Francis Xavier Sosu has called for a revision of the 3year ban imposed on the law practitioner.
Yaw Agyare says he is surprised by the actions of his father, Francis Agyare, whom Mr Sosu represented pro bono in a compensation claim against the state for wrongful imprisonment.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, Yaw praised the lawyer, known for championing human right causes, for immensely supporting his father in diverse ways.
Mr Xavier Sosu, he said, was the financial bedrock of the family from the time his father was released from jail, through the court hearings, till the compensation was paid by government.
Yaw Agyare believes his father has been ungrateful because the fee demanded by Mr Sosu was to cover his expenses on the family and on the case.
He is there asking the GLC to review the ban because the lawyer has been given a raw deal under the circumstances.
A statement from the GLC confirmed that Francis Xavier Sosu was suspended for charging the client an amount of GH¢50,000.00, which was deemed excessive and an over- estimation of the services rendered.
He was also found to have advertised his services on Facebook, in contravention of the regulations governing the practice of law in the country.
