Speaker Bagbin recalls Parliament to sit on December 16

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has announced the recall of house to convene on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 10 am.

The 8th Parliament of the Fourth republic has been characterized with controversies in the past weeks.

Following 5-2 ruling of the Supreme Court on the vacant seats brouhaha, the majority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin requested that the speaker recalls Parliament so as to conduct urgent Parliamentary businesses which had been left unattended to due to the impasse in Parliament.

In his response to the majority leader, Speaker Babgin stated that due to closeness of the upcoming December 7 elections, it is will not be in the best interest of the country to recall Parliament.

However,  in a notice issued on December 2 the speaker announced the recall of parliament at a venue to be communicated.

“Pursuant to order 58 of the standing orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the seventh meeting of the fourth session of the eighth parliament of the Fourth Republic shall commence on Monday, the 16th day of December 2024 at ten o’clock in the forenoon at a place to be appointed by the speaker in due course.”
