Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has suspended four Members of Parliament (MPs) effective immediately following Thursday's incident.

The suspended MPs include the two chief Whips for both the Minority and Majority caucuses, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor and Frank Annoh-Dompreh, as well as Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli and Jerry Ahmed Shaib.

The suspension, according to Speaker Bagbin, will last two weeks.

The suspension comes after an incident that the Speaker described as an embarrassment to the institution of Parliament.

In light of this, the Speaker has established a special committee to investigate the chaos that erupted in Parliament during the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, January 30 that destroyed tables and microphones used by the Committee.

The committee will be chaired by Ho West MP, Emmanuel Bedzrah, and is tasked with identifying those responsible for the disruptions and recommending appropriate actions.

The special committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations to the Speaker in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Appointments Committee has rendered an unqualified apology following the incident.

Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor in a statement condemned the incident, stating that 'we take full responsibility for the unfortunate incident.'

“What happened last night is totally unacceptable and we take full responsibility for the unfortunate incident."

The Appointments Committee wants to render an apology to the Speaker and the general public and we are committed to working to grow our democracy,” he stated.
