The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has issued a stern warning to cattle rearers, announcing that effective May 1, stray cattle found causing nuisance in the city will be seized, slaughtered, and used to feed inmates of the Kumasi Central Prison.
Speaking at a Media briefing in Kumasi, Mr. Boadi expressed frustration over the issue, describing it as unworthy of the city’s stature.
“I cannot sit for visitors to come to Kumasi [and] from the airport to Manhyia, and all they see are faecal matter from cattle”.
The Mayor urged herders to keep their animals out of the metropolis to avoid severe consequences.
“If you have cattle and if they stray in the vicinity of KMA, be assured that from May 1, they will be killed and given to Kumasi Central Prison for food”.
Also, Richard Ofori Boadi has threatened to use force against traders who refuse to vacate pavements within the central business district.
The Mayor vowed to enforce discipline in the city and issued a two-week ultimatum to all traders operating on pavements in Adum and other commercial areas.
He warned that those who defy the directive will face immediate action — including beatings.
“I have my own military-democratic style which I will be implementing,” the mayor said.
“When we say leave the space, and you don’t leave the space and I get there, and my boys are with me, there and then we will beat you.”
He added that his team — described as “ten boys in a pick-up with their whips” — would not hesitate to unleash physical punishment on defiant traders.
“This is Otumfuo’s city, this is the Garden City of West Africa, and we have to preserve it,” he continued.
“If you want the job to be difficult for me, I will let your body feel the difficulty you are giving to me.”
