George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police who has been the center of attention over the alleged leaked tape to oust him from office has responded to the allegations made against him.
Taking his turn before the seven-member bi-partisan Committee probing the leaked tape on Tuesday in Parliament House, the Dampare who at a point got emotional told the Committee that the allegations against him are wild, baseless and unfair.
Dampare who insisted he "doesn't have a working relationship with Daniel Bugri Naabu", the former Northern Regional Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party stressed that the said audio has brought him so much pain.
"Those wild allegations without evidence has brought a lot of pain to myself, my family especially my wife and children and also to my command and leaders" - he told the Committee.
"I feel in my spirit that this is not fair to be called to answer to allegations that are unfounded."
Dampare further indicated that he has honored the invitation to react to the issue because of the respect he has for President Akufo-Addo and Ghanaians.
"I am doing this because of the respect I have for myself, my family, the office that I occupy, institutions and more importantly, the respect I have for the president."
George Akuffo Dampare was invited before the Ad-hoc committee on Friday, September 8.
This follows the accusations that have been levelled against him by the three senior Police Officers (previous witnesses), COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George L. Asare and Superintendent Gyebi.
On Sunday, the chairman of the committee indicated that the hearing would be done in-camera.
He insisted that there were issues in the hearing that needed to be prevented from coming out in the public to protect national security.
But this modality changed today as parts of the probe was done publicly.
