A Plane crash occurs between the time of boarding and disembarking, which often ends with a fatality or a serious injury, resulting in either the plane been damaged to some degree or completely destroyed.

Therefore the statistics for the causes of plane crashes are not always clear. It is however widely accepted that the following statistics are a reasonable representation:

-55% Pilot Error(loss of control in flight and Controlled flight into terrain, CFIT)
-17% Aircraft Mechanical Error
-13% Weather
-8% Sabotage
-7% Other (ATC, Ground Handling, Unknown)
