Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the case in which monies and items worth millions of cedis were allegedly stolen from the residence of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

The development was unveiled in court on Wednesday, August 2, by police prosecutor DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye.

Initially, five individuals, including two house help of the former Aviation Minister, had been apprehended in connection with the theft. The stolen items included one million dollars, 300,000 euros, and personal belongings of significant value.

The accused persons were, however, not in court as the prosecutor explained that the investigators were in Tamale for further investigation.

With these new arrests, the total number of accused individuals has reached seven.

The second accused, Sarah Agyei, who was granted bail earlier, is yet to meet the bail conditions. The remaining six, including the two recent arrests, have been remanded into police custody.

The case has been adjourned to August 8, as investigations continue. In the meantime, tensions are running high, with the lawyer for the second accused, Augustine Gyamfi, accusing the police of impeding their efforts to meet the bail conditions.

The case's background reveals that house helps, Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, were charged before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing substantial amounts of money and valuables from the former minister's residence in October 2022.

The accused individuals have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and multiple counts of theft involving one million dollars, 300,000 euros, and millions of Ghana cedis.

The alleged theft created outrage in Ghana, as the revelations drew attention to issues of corruption and currency hoarding. Despite disputing the figures presented in court, Cecilia Dapaah, the former Sanitation Minister, faced criticism and ultimately resigned from her position.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor arrested and questioned her for suspected corruption and related offences regarding the stolen money and items.
