Ghana’s Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid has explained that, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Nashiru Issahaku resigned based on his own principles and philosophy.
According to the Information minister, it's important people recognize that governance bothers on philosophy, principles and ideologies and as such if you are the governor your principles must sync with the President’s economic vision to ensure economic development.
Former Governor of the Central bank resigned with effect from April 1 2017 after he served for barely a year after succeeding Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah. According Dr.Nashiru Issahaku, he resigned because of personal reasons and not that he was forced to resign by the Nana Addo led government as rumuored.
However, speaking to Bola Ray on Starr FM, Mustapha Hamid said the former governor possessed different economic principles which is extremely different from President Nana Addo’s economic visions.
“Dr.Nashiru saw that his economic principles and philosophy were diametrically opposed to those of the NPP and that is the truth of the matter.â€
Mustapha Hamid further clarified that, Dr. Nashiru believed in the NDC ideology and even contested elections in Tamale south on the ticket of the NDC, so he has a certain orientation and ideology which is based on social and democratic economic arrangement and we (NPP) believe in a liberal economic arrangement.
Meanwhile in a primenewsghana report, the Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Portuphy, has accused the Nana Addo led government of forcing the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku to resign.
According to the opposition National Democratic Congress, “Since the assumption of office, the Akufo-Addo administration has forced several professional public servants out of their offices, and replaced them with loyalist party members… A typical example is the manner in which the governor of the Bank of Ghana has been prevented from completing his term of office and has been forced to resign prematurely,â€
