In a rather unusual demeanor, Communications Minister-designate, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has asked politicians to put their differences behind and work together to build the nation.
Mrs. Owusu- Ekuful who has been tagged ‘iron lady’ following her controversial nature and ‘unpleasant’ comments on political platforms surprisingly, called for peace and unity among politicians regardless of their political affiliations.
“We can argue passionately and express ourselves forcefully but let’s draw the line at drawing blood. Sometimes we overdo it and I am guilty of that as a person,†she admitted.
She asked politicians to stop throwing punches at each other and maintain a very calm and cooperative atmosphere despite their disagreements.
She said, depending on where one finds him or herself, they should be able to adapt to the circumstances.
She also thanked the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Center for opening her eyes to some of the dangers that she could lead herself into by certain utterances.
“It is important to step back and tone down a bit on our utterances as politicians since we are serving in the interest of the country,†she stated.
According to her, the country should expect a new improved Ursula and there would be a lot of such in evidence.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful was speaking before the Appointment Committee of Parliament today.
