V/R Adina Clash: Activities of salt factory halted to restore calm

The Ketu South Municipal Assembly has halted the activities of an Indian company, Kessington Salt Factory in the area following a clash between local miners and workers of the Indian company on Wednesday.

Miners and workers of the Indian salt mining company at Adina in the Ketu South of the Volta Region has sustained various degrees of injury and one reportedly dead after the clash on Wednesday.

The miners were in protest against the execution of a road project that will lead through the ponds of the local miners, which they believe will affect their sources of livelihood.

They also claimed that the salt mining concession, which is in contention, had been given out to the Indian company without any consultation with the indigenes.

Speaking to the media, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West Emmanuel Bedzrah who led a delegation of the minority caucus in Parliament to the area said the activities of the mining company has to be halted to enable the resolution of the emerging issues in the area.

“We all know that this issue has been lingering around for some time to the extent that one person died on Wednesday and if one life is lost it affect the whole community and it affect the nation as well we are of thee view as we speak with the municipal coordinating director as he mention that the company to stop operation for now and to resolve all the issue.

“They should allow calm to restore in the community and I’m sure they’ve heard as and will abide to the fact that there will be calm and the company will also not work for now until we resolve all issues that need to be resolved", he noted.
