The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that the limited voter registration is going smoothly despite the earlier setback.
The 21-day exercise which commenced faced technical challenges in some districts across the country including Ayawaso West Wougon, Ayawaso Central, Korle Klotey, Ayawaso East, and Ayawaso North.
The EC in a statement said that technical challenges were due to internet connectivity.
However, the technical issues have been resolved in most registration centres nationwide.
"We are happy to note that by 12pm, the technical issues in most of the registration centres had been resolved. Consequently, the registration exercise is proceeding smoothly in almost all the registration centres nationwide, a statement said.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa has said the exercise aims to register approximately 623,000 new voters.
“The registration will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. And that gives us the figure of 623,000 that we have put there. That is not to say that we cannot go beyond that,” she stated.
She underscored the Commission's commitment to facilitating a smooth registration process, drawing upon lessons from past projections.
In anticipation of potential challenges, particularly power outages, the EC chairperson reassured the public of her outfit’s preparedness.
