Power Distribution Services Ghana (PDS), the new company which took over from Electricity Company of Ghana says the total blackout on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, was as a result of technical challenges.
The blackout affected areas such as Odorkor, Darkuman, Lapaz, Anyaa, Abeka-Lapaz, Sowutuom, Kasoa, Tema, Kwashieman, Awoshie, and parts of northern Ghana and many Ghanaians fear Dumsor has returned.
However, Public Relations Officer of PSD William Boateng says the blackout was due to technical challenges and that PSD has enough power to supply Ghanaians.
"With what happened yesterday we didn't have power supply coming into our Bulk supply and we issued a communique when we saw that and started working on it"
"We experienced some frequency challenges and so some areas had to be taken off just to stabilize the system"
"As we speak we have enough power in the system and if you have power outage now then it's a local problem and we are working on it," Mr. Boateng told Joy FM.
Power was restored Wednesday dawn as most areas are now connected.
PDS took over from ECG in February 2019 and is expected to turnaround the operations of ECG to make it profitable.
In addition, the new management is expected to improve access to electricity while cutting down on waste in the system to block all leakages that drain the financials of ECG.
