The Acting Director-General of the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, has said the police can arrest Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu despite his parliamentary immunity.
He stated on Accra based Peace FM that the police is likely to go to the apex court to seek interpretation to guide their future security operations following the Speaker of Parliament declining their request to release the MP Francis for interrogation.
"We will seek interpretation from the apex court because this is a democratic county... there is a likelihood we will go to court and give get him summoned. If he doesn't come, the court will issue a bench warrant where force is applicable," he said.
According to him, the actions of the police is not to "witchhunt" the Madina MP but is for him to assist the police investigations in accordance to the law.
"We are looking at the law, we are looking at our commitment to the law. If somebody decides to run over the police by virtue of belonging to a group, it is not good. We want to make Ghana better. We need not set a bad example to the youth to disregard their police," he stressed.
ACP, Kwesi Ofori, added that their presence at the Madina MP's church was a security hoax to signal the MP to submit himself before court.
"When situations are critical, we can do some tactical moves to amplify our presence aimed at something... to tell you that we know where you are at any given presence," he stated.

Francis-Xavier Sosu led a demonstration last week to protest bad roads in his constituency, which the police contend came along with some unlawful acts and misconduct by the protestors.
Francis Sosu denied an invitation by the police on grounds that he could not be brought in for questioning while performing his parliamentary duties without approval from Parliament.
He stressed that though protestors had blocked roads, there was no basis for any arrest because due process was followed before and during the demonstration.
Although some plainclothes police officers were present at the Madina MP's church, police has denied that they were there to arrest the lawmaker.
