The Appointments Committee has rendered an unqualified apology for last night's incident.

Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor in a statement condemned the incident, stating that 'we take full responsibility for the unfortunate incident.'

“What happened last night is totally unacceptable and we take full responsibility for the unfortunate incident."

The Appointments Committee wants to render an apology to the Speaker and the general public and we are committed to working to grow our democracy,” he stated.

His remark comes after tensions flared in Parliament on Thursday, January 30, as members of the Minority and Majority caucuses clashed during the vetting of Health Minister-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Foreign Affairs Minister-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

While members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Committee wanted vetting to proceed, their New Patriotic Party (NPP) counterparts disagreed.

The Minority members cited the long day they had had vetting, Ministers-designate for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Environment, Science and Technology, Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, and Minister of Sports and Recreation.

The NPP members thus decided to impede proceedings by placing their chairs on the table. The chaos that resulted end up in the destruction of tables and microphones used by the Committee.
