It’s no secret that wigs are popular these days, mainly because they allow women to change their hairstyles as often as they like.
You can wear curly hair on one day and straight hair on the other without damaging your scalp.
On average, wigs don’t require much maintenance but that doesn’t mean you should neglect them. If you wear Brazilian or Peruvian hair wigs it’s essential that you keep it in good condition so that they last longer.
We’ve put together tips on how you can keep your wig in tip-top condition without heading to the salon.
-Wash your wig every two weeks
If you wear the same wig frequently then it is advisable to wash it every two weeks to keep it looking healthy. Be sure to brush your hair before you wash it, and always start brushing from the roots, not the top!
Wash your hair with warm water using a Keratin Smooth Shampoo. The shampoo is designed to fight frizz, detangle knots and boost shine.
-Condition your wig after washing
It is essential that you apply conditioner to your hair to avoid it from becoming brittle and more prone to breakage. Conditioning will leave your hair with more moisture, giving you a sleek and smooth look.Apply your conditioner after rinsing off your shampoo. Use a Keratin Smooth Hair Masque Treatment and apply it evenly over your hair. Leave the hair mask on for three to five minutes and rinse it off with warm water. When it comes to drying a wig, most people let their wig air dry on their wig stand but if time is not on your hands, you can blow-dry to speed up the process.
-Protect your hair from heat damage
If you’re someone who uses curling irons or hair straighteners on your wig then you need to use a product that will protect your hair from heat damage. Before heat styling use a heat defence styling spray to seal in shine. Hold the spray can 20-30cm from hair and spray evenly over your wig for maximum protection and shine. You can use this spray on damp and dry hair too. Apply your conditioner after rinsing off your shampoo.
