President John Mahama has stated that his government will require $1.7 billion to complete the unfinished Agenda 111 hospital projects.
He revealed that nearly 90 hospitals under the initiative remain incomplete, with some commissioned facilities lacking essential equipment, including hospital beds.
“The previous government started Agenda 111 but has not been able to complete the hospitals. Many remain unfinished, and even the ones commissioned don’t have a single bed. Now, we need $1.7 billion to finish these projects,” he emphasised.
Speaking at a meeting with the Christian Council, Mahama suggested that religious organisations collaborate to help complete some of the delayed hospitals.
“If a mission already has a hospital in an area, we will not build another to compete. Instead, we will invest in upgrading mission hospitals to enhance healthcare delivery,” he explained.
He further invited interested religious groups to take over and manage some of the uncompleted hospitals, ensuring their swift completion and efficient operation.
Mahama reassured Ghanaians that every hospital under Agenda 111 would be fully completed to meet the country’s growing healthcare needs.
