If anyone, especially the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) thought that the largest opposition party in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not as formidable as they were, they would need to rethink.
Within the last year, the NPP has been plagued with incidents of infighting which led to the suspension of former National Chairman, Paul Afoko; former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong; and former Second National Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe.
This has led many including President John Mahama to argue that the NPPÂ was a disunited party which was only focused on unnecessarily punishing party members who go contrary to its views.
President Mahama during his reechoed the disunity in the NPP saying Akufo-Addo was comfortably presiding over a disunited party and thus could trusted to unite Ghana when he is elected.
“We are looking for a leader who can unite Ghana and not a leader who will divide Ghana. If you cannot unite your own party, how do you unite a nation?" he questioned.
But if the attendance at the NPP's manifesto launch on Sunday at the Trade Fair site at La in Accra is anything to go by, then it could be concluded that the supposed disunity has not really affected the party's fortunes at the grassroots.
Supporters defied a heavy downpour across Accra to attend the event and they were as enthusiastic as they have ever been.
The photos below should give the NDC and all the others who argued that the NPP had been weakened by the perceived disunity some food for thought:
