John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will name his running mate 'next year' for the 2024 general elections.

Mahama said this on Wednesday, November 22 in the Ahafo Region as he wrapped up the first leg of his Building Ghana Tour.

Some sympathisers and supporters of the NDC are growing anxious to hear the name Mahama will announce in 2024.

Already names like Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, Julius Debrah, Kwame Awuah-Darko, and Zanetor Rawlings have popped up as Mahama's potential running name.

Also, there have been calls from some traditional authorities in Asunafo South for the flagbearer to consider their MP, Eric Opoku for the position and the queen mother of the Bono Traditional Council has made similar calls for a Bono native to be chosen for the role.

But speaking to the gathering in Ahafo Region, he called for calm as the party looks forward to making the decision in 2024.

"What I will say is that, just like custom has it, our party also has processes to select candidates for various roles."

"It is the Presidential candidate, National executives, and Council of Elders who come together to select a running mate. But that process will start next year. So keep praying for such a time," Mahama explained.

Over the years, the Central Region, as well as the Northern Region, have been the two major regions from where the flagbearer picks his partner.
