The Electoral Commission (EC) has accused Anthony Nukpenu, the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), of leading a mob to vandalize its Greater Accra Regional Collation Centre, leading to the suspension of today’s collation.

The supporters destroyed the EC's furniture and louvre blades before the EC could start the collation process.

They followed up by issuing threats to the Commission and its staff.

The chaotic scene forced the EC to call off today’s collation, which was set to cover the results from three remaining polling stations to declare the winner.

In a statement the EC described the "heinous acts" as "unacceptable", calling on the police to bring the perpetrators to book.

According to them, they have footage of the incident to assist in the investigation.

“We call on the Police to swiftly bring the perpetrators to book by identifying, arresting, and prosecuting them,” the EC stated.

The Commission also appealed to the government to ensure the Police provide adequate security to allow it to complete its mandate without further disruptions.

The EC reassured the public of its commitment to declaring a winner for Ablekuma North but stressed the importance of a secure environment for its operations.
