The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has surcharged two ministers and their agencies for failing to appear before the parliamentary agency yesterday.

The Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta and the Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye and their agencies have been surcharged for their absence at the PAC sitting on Thursday, June 24, in what some suspect was deliberate.

The two government officials were expected to come before the committee in Parliament to answer queries on the 2017 and 2018 Auditor General’s report.

PAC members of the committee had turned out in their numbers only to be informed by the Clerk that the ministries had failed to show up.

Chairman of PAC, James Klutse Avedzi, has directed the Finance Department of Parliament to ensure that the two ministers and their agencies pay for GBC’s airtime and among cost.

He also ordered them to appear before the Committee today, Friday, June 25, 2021, at 2 pm prompt.

The PAC Chairman reiterated that Standing Order 165 of Parliament assigns to the Public Accounts Committee the examination of the audited accounts showing the appropriation of funds granted by Parliament to the government.

According to him, the PAC aside from the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation is the only Committee of the House chaired by a Member from the Minority side of the legislative body in order to deepen the mandate of the Committee in scrutinising properly, the audited accounts of government institutions.

The Committee is expected to complete its scheduled public sittings to examine the Report of the Auditor-General on the Public Accounts of the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
