Among the many things that organisers of the #FixTheCountry demonstration will be pushing for when they hit the streets on August 4 is a new Constitution.
“A New Constitution that serves all our citizens equitably; limits the growing executive power and punishes the abuse of authority more concretely. A New Constitution for a New Generation,†the pressure group stated in a statement issued on Monday, July 5, 2021.
The August 4 date slated for the street protest comes after the Ghana Police Service granted the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress permission to demonstrate on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
The police had earlier communicated they would not be able to provide security for the protest but made a U-turn after a meeting with the leadership of the NDC.
Organisers of the #FixTheCountry demonstrations have said they have spoken to the police about the upcoming demonstration.
The August 4 demonstration by #FixTheCountry campaigners is also to push for a “New Economic charter and Directive Principles of State Policy that is expressly binding; and which guarantees for every Ghanaian economic dignity; liberates them from poverty or economic destitution and secures for them the conditions to truly prosper.â€
The third demand concerns a setting up of a binding National Development Plan.
“A National Development Plan that which is adopted through a participatory process and which is expressly binding on all political actors in Ghana. [This] plan must tackle all sectors and areas necessary for the development of this country, including health, education, infrastructure etc; and which provide a legally enforceable roadmap to fix underdevelopment. There has to be genuine plan to #FixTheCountry,†the group said in the release issued yesterday.
Below is the full statement that contains two other demands by the campaigners.
