Former Attourney-General Betty Mould-Iddrisu is demanding an unqualified apology from the Education Minister for making comments she deems derogatory about his immediate predecessor.

Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh also known as Napo on Tuesday described his predecessor Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as an embarrassment and a disgrace to the Education Ministry.

According to Dr Opoku Prempeh, “her four-year tenure under John Mahama was nothing but an embarrassment.”

He said Prof Opoku-Agyemang left the education sector burdened with the huge debts, adding that she didn't understand education.

In a statement demanding the withdrawal of Napo's comments and an apology, Betty Mould-Iddrisu noted it is unfortunate that the current Minister of Education used such unsavoury words to describe the tenure of his predecessor.

She continued that Professor Opoku-Agyeman is a distinguished and accomplished academic who rose to become vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.  Her achievements in the arena of Education are legendary. It is therefore unfortunate that women have to be subjected to such abuse in the discharge of their official duties.

"I am calling on the Hon minister Dr Opoku Prempeh, on behalf of the women in Ghana, especially Women in Politics to withdraw and apologize for making such derogatory comments about a  distinguished woman professional who is a known role model globally."

The statement advised the Minister to stay focused on ensuring and delivering an effective implementation of the Free SHS programme which has been hit with several challenges that have the tendency of eroding gains chalked in the educational sector.

It concluded the Minister of Education under the current circumstances must be seen to be the busiest appointee, not to waste precious time in insulting his Senior in the name of politics.
