A Ho High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the election of John Peter Amewu as Member of Parliament for Hohoe, citing lack of jurisdiction.

The petition, filed by five residents from the Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) enclave, sought to nullify Amewu’s victory in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

The SALL area, comprising 13 communities, did not participate in the elections due to a dispute over their inclusion in the Oti Region, carved out of the Volta Region.

The court’s ruling on Monday, July 29, 2024, said the petitioners’ request effectively questions the constitutionality of CI 128, which guided the Electoral Commission’s conduct of the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Amewu, who made a late entry into the hearing, had introduced three new issues, which the NDC in the region described as a delay tactic.

The dismissal of the petition means Amewu remains the MP for Hohoe.
