The Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP) effort at placing an injunction on the receipt of nomination papers by the Electoral Commission could delay the electoral plans of the commission for the 2016 polls according to Mr. Dzakpasu.

Mr. Eric Dzakpasu who is the Head of Communications at the EC, observed “the court injunction has serious implications for the elections.”

He stated filing of nominations will not be complete until the fees which the High Court is yet to determine is paid constraining the commission from attending to other processes including balloting for positions on the ballot paper and the printing of ballot papers among others.

The commission is depending on the counsel of its lawyers to know how to proceed although presidential aspirants are to be vetted pending the ruling from the court.

A total of nine presidential aspirants out of the 25 who picked the forms presented their papers to the EC to be considered as candidates on Thursday.

The EC after the vetting of documents will announce which of the aspirants qualified as candidates. Any amendments must be re-submitted before 5pm on Friday, September 30, 2016.
