Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has emerged victorious in a legal battle against the former Chief of Staff concerning the illegal sale of vehicles belonging to Kumasi Technical University.
The case, titled Dafeamekpor Rockson-Nelson vs Attorney General (Suit No: GJ/1357/2021), was adjudicated by General Jurisdiction 10 of the High Court, presided over by His Lordship John Eugene Nyante Nyadu.
The court delivered its judgment in favour of the plaintiff, granting all reliefs sought in the Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim.
The court directed the Vice-Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University to value the two unserviceable vehicles that were not assessed before being auctioned.
This valuation is to take place after the vehicles are retrieved.
Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor must obtain approval for the disposal of nine unserviceable vehicles, first from the Minister of Finance and subsequently from the Minister of Education, acting in consultation with the university's council.
The court also ordered that the previous purchasers of any of the nine unserviceable vehicles be given the first option to purchase the respective vehicle upon its resale.
The court awarded a cost of GHC 30,000 in favour of Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor against the defendant.
This ruling brings closure to the contentious issue surrounding the illegal sale of university vehicles and reinforces the importance of adhering to proper protocols in public asset disposal.
