Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has urged newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to prioritize the nation’s interests over partisan politics.

Addressing the new MPs during an orientation session in Accra on Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Speaker underscored the need to focus on tackling Ghana’s pressing challenges and dedicating themselves to national development.

“I urge you to stay focused and work diligently to address the challenges facing our nation. The priority is the nation, not the [political] party. It is very critical, and for those who may not be observant, please refocus,” Bagbin stated.

He further emphasized the long-term rewards of prioritizing Ghana’s welfare, noting that politicians who adopt a nation-first approach often achieve greater success in their careers.

“Those who truly put Ghana first advance further in politics than those who are overly partisan. When you are extremely partisan, you may rise within a regime, but in the next one, you may collapse because you are seen as tied to one leader. Once that leader is no longer relevant, you may also lose relevance,” Bagbin explained.
