Legal practitioner and communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Tameklo, has criticised the report released by the Ejura Committee as not exhaustive.

According to him, the report of the committee tasked with probing the killings that occurred in Ejura confirms the fear expressed by the public when it was set up.

He made these comments on Good Morning Ghana on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

“With the greatest respect to the members of the committee the conclusion limits the conversation about the death of Kaaka”, he said.

He stated that he strongly believes that the attempt to limit the cause of death in Ejura to only the question of a family feud is inappropriate.

He said the report has also fed into public concerns about the credibility of the three-member committee.

Godwin Tameklo also expressed his disappointment that the report suggested that Kaak’s murder was not directly associated with his social media activism.

“Before the committee came in, there were serious reservations that…this committee has been put in place more or less to cover up for what appears to be the initial claim that Kaaka was killed for his alleged association with the FixTheCountry conversation,” he said.

He claimed Kaaka’s association to the FixTheCountry conversation is what might have led to his demise and it wasn’t in any way directly associated with a family feud.

The three-member ministerial committee recommended sanctions against the military deployed to quell the disturbance that led to two deaths.

The committee wants the military establishment to review the actions of the Lt Martin Opoku-led soldiers “for the inappropriate use of force and apply appropriate actions”.

The committee has also recommended the removal of the MCE for the area, and the transfer of the District Police Commander of Ejura, DSP Kojo Hammond “first for his incompetence in handling the situation and for the fact that his relationship with the community seems to have been damaged beyond repair.”

President Nana Akufo-Addo in July 2021 directed the Interior Ministry, Ambrose Dery, to conduct a public inquiry following the killing of two persons and injuries to four others by soldiers during a protest.

The youth of Ejura had been protesting the killing of a popular social activist, Ibrahim Muhammed, aka Kaaka.

Kaaka died on Monday, June 28, 2021, after he was attacked by unknown assailants while returning home from an event he attended in his neighbourhood area.
