MP for Madina, Francis Xavier Sosu, has described the issue of youth unemployment in the country as a product of leadership failure.
Francis Sosu spoke on this issue on Good Morning Ghana on September 23, 2021.
“Anytime we see a particular problem persist for a very long time without taking any pragmatic steps to deal with them is leadership failure,†he said.
He said the current youth unemployment situation the country is facing is a combination of bad leadership that have accumulated along the line and a failure to tackle it.
He described the situation as a national issue and that it shouldn’t be made partisan.
Francis Sosu stated that most people have the perception that attending vocational schools and learning trades isn’t for smart and brilliant people, stating that that perception must be changed.
He said it will take political leadership to shape the mindset of people towards taking up such jobs.
“Every politician has a role to play in reducing the tension among the young people when it comes to the lack of jobs,†he said.
He described it as a critical task that all politicians must undertake.
Francis Xavier Sosu also mentioned religion as a major contributor to unemployment since many businesses have been converted to churches and places of worship.
“Religious leaders have also contributed to unemployment because they have not been able to shape the minds of our people to find jobs,†he said.
He said many Ghanaian youths spend most of their time on religious activities rather than finding jobs that will put money in their pockets.
He mentioned that every religious leader has a godly duty to let their followers know that the issue of unemployment is very fundamental.
