The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), an anti-corruption campaigner, has commended the Office of the Special Prosecuting’s announcement that 31 cases are being pursued but says information on these cases must also be made public.

Programmes Manager at the GII, Mary Awelana Addah, said while it is understandable if the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, is deliberately holding back the names of persons involved in the alleged corruption cases, he must at some point provide details of the nature of the cases.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has announced that it will from January 2022 head to court with 31 corruption cases.

At a press conference in Accra earlier this month, Mr Kissi Agyebeng said cases have gone through the necessary vetting.

"We have 31 active cases before us and we've finished the entire review and those that we will take to the court for prosecution will be what we believe are strong in terms of the evidence to match up to be approved beyond a reasonable doubt, the others we will advise ourselves in the national interest as to how to go about them," he told pressmen.

Commenting on Ghana’s anti-corruption fight as part of a current affairs discussion on Newsfile, Mrs Adda said it is imperative for the public to know which cases are being pursued.

“I heard that some of the cases…have to do family issues, administrative issues…and so I think at a point some of these cases may not go to court. Not all the 31 cases will go….

“But what we would want him to do going forward is to ensure that…the monitoring he has done which is supposed to tell Ghanaians” is traceable and known to the public,” she Mrs Addah to Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday, December 18, 2021.

She added that: “To be told that it is 31 and at the end of the day we see that only about five are worthy of pursuing will be disappointing to Ghanaians, so we want accurate information.”
