President Akufo Addo has urged Ghanaians to at all cost defend the freedom of Ghana which was won by our forefathers leading to our independence.

Speaking at Ghana's 62nd Independence Day anniversary celebration in Tamale in the Northern Region, the first time the celebration has been moved from the capital Accra, President Akufo Addo said the pronouncement made by Ghana's first President Kwame Nkrumah that "Ghana your beloved country is free forever" should always be on the minds of Ghanaians so we protect it with the last drop of our blood.

"We will defend our freedom with the last drop of our blood".

This year's Independence Day celebration is under the theme "Peace and Unity", and also moved to the Northern Regional Capital of Tamale to commemorate the peace that has been restored to people of Dagbon with the investiture of a new Yaa Naa to end the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the area.

Present at the celebration was the President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou as the guest of honour, former President Jerry John Rawlings, Former President John Mahama, the new Yaa Naa among other political and traditional leaders.
