A candidate who contested in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary primary for Ofoase Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region has defected to the Progressive People's Party (PPP) and predicted that per his works and contribution in the region, he would win by 60 percent.

John Obiri Yeboah who prior to the primary protested that the eventual winner, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah was unfit to contest the seat because he had not lived in the constituency for at least two years, according to the rules written in the party’s constitution, says he has been suspended by the executives of party for no apparent reason.

Speaking in an interview Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he accused Oppong Nkrumah of being divisive saying that after winning the primaries he drove his car to the residence of the other contender but failed to do same with him.

According to him, the parliamentary candidate had chosen someone who will be appointed as MCE should Nana Addo win power despite same promise being made to him by the party's chairman adding that his efforts in the party have been swept under the carpet and all his sacrifices were not recognised.

He noted that if indeed he was seen as someone working against the interest of the party, then he was leaving the party to enable them work without his interference.

Chairman of the region in a reaction to their former member, Mr. Kingsley Kissi said John Obiri Yeboah is not a true stalwart of the NPP because, if he were, he would not have violated the rules of the party chastising the candidate for acting in bad faith. ''If he wants to go, he should go,'' he said.

''If he wants to go, he should go,'' the regional chairman said.

Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah won the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency primary by polling 219 votes out of the 418 votes which were cast.  John Obiri Yeboah came second with 145 And Bright Asamoah had 54 votes. The Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency is known to be a popular seat of the opposition NPP, and it’s likely the former broadcast journalist would retain the seat for the opposition NPP. But John Obiri Yeboah said, he will win hands down.
