Managing Director of State Transport Company (STC) Nana Akomea has ticked former President John Dramani Mahama as the man to beat in the NDC flagbearship race if he decides to contest.

Many bigwigs of the NDC including forrmer Trade Minister Ekow Spio-Garbrah, former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Sylvester Mensah, former Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, and Second Deputy Speaker Alban Bagbin are reported to be interested in the position.

Speaking on Joy FM's News Analysis programme Newsfile Nana Akomea said John Mahama holds the advantage by virtue of the strong grassroots support he has built over the past years as President and the party’s 2016 candidate.

“All these District Chief Executives who are stalwarts of the party at the district and constituency levels, the Ministers of State [he appointed], his war chest is bigger. You are starting from scratch to build up structures on the ground to prosecute your campaign but he [Mahama] already has them so he has the advantage.” He added.

Meanwhile reports indicate the family of the former President John Mahama are urging him to bow out of politics.
