The NDC Minority in Parliament boycotted today’s sitting to enable Members to accompany and solidarize its leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson over their respective trials.

According to the caucus, this is show they are united behind their colleagues over their unfair trials.

Dr Ato Forson is currently facing a criminal case related to an alleged financial loss of €2.37 million to the state. The case revolves around a deal to purchase 200 ambulances between 2014 and 2016.

On the other hand, James Gyakye Quayson is undergoing trial at the High Court in Accra for charges of forgery and perjury.

These charges are in connection to alleged offences during the lead-up to the 2020 Assin North parliamentary election.

In a statement, the Minority expressed its unity with their colleagues and declared their inability to participate in the business of the house on this day.

The statement also served as a warning, indicating that this boycott marks the beginning of a series of actions that the Caucus intends to undertake to put an end to the perceived ongoing persecution of the Minority Leader, James Gyakye Quayson, and Collins Dauda.

Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minority Chief Whip, issued the statement, emphasising that in the midst of persecution, cooperation may suffer.
