Former  Rector of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration [GIMPA], Professor Stephen Adei says most Members of Parliament [MPs] will not be in the position to account for their common fund allocations.

Professor Stephen Adei believes if a thorough investigation is conducted most Members of Parliament will be found wanting in terms of how their fund allocations were used.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Newsfile on July 1, he said MPs do not commit the funds for their intended purpose which is to develop their communities, but only put them  to work when elections are due.

The MPs common fund is a resource allocated to parliamentarians to boost developmental projects in their constituencies. There have been complains about MPs not developing their constituencies with their common fund allocation but rather spend them on personal dealings.

Professor Stephen Adei who was commenting on an alleged payment made by the National Lottery Authority to the previous finance committee to facilitate the passage of their amendments to the National Lottery Act, 2006 (Act 722), said expensive expenditure of Parliamentarians during elections is a contributing factor to these bribery allegations.

He also called on stakeholders to build a resort for the Parliamentarians in Accra to avoid  these luxury trips, because they are draining the state kitty.
