Nana Akufo-Addo to address the Nation on Thursday

President Nana Akufo-Addo is scheduled to deliver his second State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Thursday, February 8, 2018.

The State of the Nation Address is an annual address delivered to citizens through Parliament by the President of the Republic of Ghana, the address informs citizens how government managing the affairs of the State. The State of the Nation address is in Accordance with Article 67 of the country's constitution.

Majority Chief Whip in Parliament Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh made this known on Friday, February 2, 2018, when he presented the business statement for the third week ending February 9, 2018.on behalf of Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

“Rt Hon Speaker, His Excellency, the President of the Republic is expected to deliver a Message on the State of the Nation on Thursday, 8th February 2018, in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution,”

The Majority Whip also entreated members of the House to be punctual for the event.

“Hon Members are therefore urged to be in the Chamber latest by 09:15 hours, as it may not be courteous for Members to enter or exit the Chamber after the President has entered the House to deliver the address. Indeed, it is a breach of protocol,” Ameyaw-Cheremeh noted.

President Nana Akufo-Addo delivered his first State of the Nation Address on February 21, 2017, barely 40 days after assuming the reins of government.

In his first address, President Nana Akufo-Addo said the government would put in place policies "that will deliver sustainable growth and cut out corruption."

In the February 8, address, Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to itemize sector by sector the general health of the country and outline policies and programmes to facilitate the country's socio-economic development.

The sectors that are expected to be covered in the address include education, agriculture, energy and health.

Cash for Seat Committee report

Meanwhile, the Special Committee tasked to investigate the “Cash for Seat” allegations against the Ministry of Trade and Industry for collecting various sums of money from expatriate businesses and related matters, during the recently held Ghana Expatriate Business Awards, on Friday, February 2 2018 presented the report on the enquiry for distribution to members of the House.

According to the Business Statement read by the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh the House would move a motion to adopt the Committees Report on Tuesday, February 6, 2018
