Former Deputy Health Minister, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, has said the allegations by the NDC about the 2020 elections are meant to discredit the Electoral Commission (EC).

According to him, most of the allegations made by the opposition party is based on their "subjective observation" and not backed by "scientific research".

He maintains that the 2020 elections was devoid of rigging since the biggest electoral reforms was done under John Mahama's administration.

"Did Akufo-Addo appoint the person who supervised the elections when Mahama lost by one million votes, the biggest electoral laws was done by Charlotte Osei who was an appointee in Mahama's administration? Nobody should say the 2020 elections was rigged because Jean Mensa or Bossman was appointed by Akufo-Addo," he said.

He added that the National Democratic Commission was on a quest to downplay the EC's integrity and cause the pubic to have no confidence in them as well.

"Because JM said one million votes was printed, the ordinary man will say the elections was rigged. Already JM has said he accepted the electoral results in order to avoid chaos... so what are you trying to tell the public when you say one million votes was printed?...you are further discrediting the referee," he said on Accra-based Peace FM on Friday.

The former MP for Ledzokuku constituency indicated that Mahama's allegations has sown "seeds of tension" which could cause chaos in the next elections.

Former President John Mahama has alleged that many things went wrong in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Deputy EC Chairperson, Dr Bossman Asare, said the Electoral Commission is concerned that these claims are an attempt to undermine and the state institution that has been provided with the constitutional mandate to conduct elections.

Dr. Asare has urged the police to investigate the claims since it has the potential to derail and undermine Ghana’s democracy.
