Former Vice President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the residence of Rev. Ntim Fordjour after the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) invaded his residence.

The decision to visit the ranking member of the Defence and Interior Committee was to solidarize with him.

In a tweet announcing the visit, Ntim Fordjour said “Thank you very much Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the visit to my residence this evening following the politically-motivated lawless act of harassment in the attempt of the NDC government to gag MPs from exercising their legitimate oversight”.

He revealed that former President Akufo-Addo has also placed a call to offer him his support.

Ntim Fordjour, in a post on Thursday, April 10, stated that in the eight years of the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, no opposition Member of Parliament was harassed by the state security apparatus for demanding probes in the discharge of their parliamentary oversight.

He said “Yesterday, as the former President of the Republic HE Nana Akufo-Addo @NAkufoAddo placed a call to me and conveyed his kind thoughts to me and my family, following the needless invasion of our home without a warrant by men purportedly sent by the government for raising matters of serious concerns worth probing on behalf of the Minority Caucus, I came to appreciate the more, how tolerance shapes our democracy.

“In the eight years extraordinary leadership of President Akufo-Addo, no opposition MP was harassed by the state security apparatus for demanding probes in the discharge of their parliamentary oversight. Every fierce criticism and demand for probe by the opposition MPs were graciously accommodated by President Akufo-Addo without threats and harassments.

“The level of intolerance demonstrated by President Mahama in his reaction to a press statement of the Minority Cause simply demanding probes into various matters of urgent and serious public interest, is unprecedented and a major setback in our democratic pursuit.

“This is indeed beyond the culture of silence. Truth will stand always!”

This comes after the minority botched attempts to arrest their colleague by the NIB over allegations made on some flights that suspiciously entered Ghana and its content.

Meanwhile, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has strongly condemned what they describe as an attempt to intimidate Ntim Fordjour.

Speaking to the media after the incident on Wednesday, April 9, he declared his side's unwavering support for their colleague and their refusal to be intimidated.

He described the move by the NIB as politically motivated and aimed at silencing dissent within Parliament

He further emphasised that the Minority remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in investigating the allegations made by the Assin South MP and insisted that due process must be followed.

He also called on the public to remain alert and support efforts to uphold justice and fairness.
