John Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has replied to President Akufo-Addo over his recent "Mahama will destroy my legacy comment."

Akufo-Addo, addressing a gathering at a rally in Dobro, following a visit to Blue Skies Limited on Monday, May 7 President Akufo-Addo reiterated his support for Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia as the preferred presidential candidate.

That, he said was because the former President Mahama would undo the progress the country had made under his New Patriotic Party (NPP)- led administration.

“This is our election year, and the limited registration has started. Anybody who hasn’t registered and is eligible should go and register. This is because your right to vote is your power.”

“Also, when the time is up for the voting, our job is simple. The person I defeated, my work since I took over, seems not to please him. I cannot hand over power to such a person. He will destroy whatever we have done when he comes,” the President added.

In a swift reply Mahama has explained why he would not protect Akufo-Addo's 'legacy' should he be given the chance to govern Ghana again.

Mahama stated that if elected, he would not continue President Akufo-Addo's legacies of corruption and misgovernance which have pushed more people into the poverty bracket.

"Of course, I will not protect your 'legacy' of corruption, misgovernance, arrogance, ineptitude, bankrupt economy, increased unemployment, and pushing more of our people into the poverty bracket," he tweeted
