A total of 203,439 delegates are expected to participate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
This election will determine the flagbearer who will represent the party in the 2024 general elections.
Voting will take place across all 16 regions of the country at various constituencies.
Among the delegates, 436 will cast their votes at the party’s head office at Asylum Down, Accra. The Ashanti Region will have 34,987 delegates voting, while the Ahafo Region will have 4,204 delegates.
In the Greater Accra Region, a significant number of 39,134 delegates will participate. The Volta Region will have 11,995 delegates in attendance.
The party has also unveiled the polling stations within the constituencies for the election.
However, amidst the preparations for the election, there have been counter-accusations between the camps of MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Agyapong has accused Bawumia of attempting to bribe him to step down from the race while Team Bawumia has refuted the allegation.
The four-horse race is between the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin, Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agric Minister, Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh.
The former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen resigned from the party in September, after the Special Delegates Conference and declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate citing intimidation of his supporters.
