Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia delivered a touching tribute at the funeral of his former press aide, Kwabena Boadu, held at the State House in Accra.
Boadu died in November ahead of the general elections, which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won.Â
Delivering the tribute, Bawumia said he had found it hard to write and that he only managed to put it together on Friday.
“Kwabena Boadu was not only my press aide; he became my friend, my political advisor, my strategist, my speech writer, my confidant and my younger brother. He did so much but always shunned the lime light. That was Kwabena for youâ€, he said.
Bawumia credited Boadu as having played a major role in Nana Akufo-Addo's victory in the 2016 election, pledging that the young NPP activist would never be forgotten.
"Kwabena Boadu, I miss you, and you will forever remain in my heart; Kwabena, rest in peace until we meet again," he added.
Boadu was found dead in his hotel room in Wa, the Upper West regional capital, on November 24, 2016, during the NPP's campaign tour of the region.
He reportedly died from electrocution.
The funeral was attended by several top NPP dignitaries, including, President Akufo-Addo.
Boadu's remains was later buried at the Achimota Cemetery.
On social media, NPP supporters have been paying tribute to a man they described as a hero.
"Someone as special as Kwabena Boadu will never be forgotten. He will remain in our hearts forever," one Facebook user said.
