Governance expert and lawyer, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, has backed the decision by President Nana Akufo-Addo to sack ministers and other government appointees nurturing presidential ambitions.
President Akufo-Addo, after a Cabinet meeting on Friday, December 10, 2021, served notice to NPP ambitious appointees to quit his government and focus on their ambitions.
According to him, all presidential aspirants should resign now and pursue their personal interests and allow those who are ready to work to take over and focus on the job.
President Akufo-Addo threatened to sack any appointee who will defy his order to campaign whilst serving in his government.
Commenting on the decision, Dr Oduro Osae noted that when political ambitions interfere with good governance, it is imperative for swift action to be taken against such ambitious appointees.
"If you are a Minister of State or somebody in charge of government or managing a state institution and you want to go into politics, do the needful as Honourable Asamoah Boateng did, he resigned and decided to contest. I can't imagine you going there with state resources, you are a Chief Executive of an institution, you use the institution's fuel to go and do all of that.
"It is not good governance. So I agree with the President that if you feel you want to go into politics, resign and go and I advised the President that if they don't resign, go ahead and fire them", Dr Oduro Osae said.

Dr Oduro Osae has also advised the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disqualify candidates who fail to comply with the party rules and regulations as means of ensuring discipline.
"The NPP must know that they are going into 2024 and they want to 'break the eight'. Discipline and enforcement of rules is very important.
"I really want to see the NPP go ahead and enforce the rules even if it means disqualifying the candidate and send a strong signal that you are the party of discipline...If you don't do that the indiscipline will continue into the presidential primaries then it will continue into 2024", Dr Oduro Osae added.
Dr Oduro Osae made these comments on the GTV Breakfast show, December 14, 2021.
