Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has criticized the behaviour of Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin towards Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah, the Clerk to the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

He described the behaviour towards the clerk who has worked in Parliament for 18 years as “misogynistic and narcissistic” and “must be roundly condemned by all well meaning members of society and Parliament itself”

His comments come after the Effutu MP and Ranking member of the Appointments Committee in Parliament Afenyo-Markin accused Gifty Jiagge Gobah of sidelining them in key areas of the vetting process, especially on the night of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa's session.

However, according to Sam George, Afenyo-Markin’s behaviour was “despicable” and “unbecoming of a Leader of the august House”.

The Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations Minister-designate expressed shock that Afenyo-Markin would dare to behave in such a manner towards a female clerk.

“I am absolutely certain he would not have dared to do this to a male Clerk of Parliament,” he opined.

Sam George praised Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah for her “poise and composure” during the incident, saying she was a “role model for our daughters”.

He called on the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, to formally raise the issue with the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

Sam George emphasized that such behaviour would not be tolerated, especially after the passage of the Affirmative Action Law.

“Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah, I and many more decent people stand with you. Be encouraged and stand strong with your head held high,” Sam George noted.
