A peace walk by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned violent at Mamobi on Sunday morning.
The keep-fit walk, which both parties typically organise every weekend as part of their campaign activities, ended abruptly when a group of motorbike riders from one side encountered the supporters from the other side.
Eyewitnesses reported that a verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
“After our peace walk, it is rather unfortunate that this happened,” said one of the eyewitnesses who said it was motorbike riders from the NDC side that confronted the supporters of the NPP.
According to him, the clash intensified when one of the NPP supporters allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired several shots.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
"Seven of the injured victims have been treated and discharged while two are still receiving treatment at the hospital," a police statement read.
