President Akufo-Addo has disclosed that the 62nd Independence day celebration of Ghana will officially be held in Tamale to commemorate the peace that was restored in Dagbon.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution on Thursday, February 21, 2019, President Akufo-Addo said the government will ride on the peace restored in Dagbon and find a solution to most of the existing conflicts in the country.
"We spent enough time, energy and money to resolve the Dagbon dispute and I pray that we all continue the process until peace becomes the fabric of Dagbon, in order to reinforce and support the process of reconciliation and the restoration of peace in Dagbon, I have decided that this year, the 62nd Independence Day celebration will be held in Tamale on 6th March,†he said.
“This will be the first time in our nation’s history that the celebration is being held outside of our national capital, Accra. I am very much looking forward to it,†he added
"I'm certainly not looking for praise for the peace that has come to Dagbon. I want time, money and effort to be spent on making Dagbon and Ghana great," he added.
President Akufo-Addo last month was present at the investiture of the new overlord Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama to bring to an end the protracted chieftaincy dispute which has robbed the people of Dagbon of peace for nearly two decades.
Following the killing of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II in 2002, a committee of eminent kings headed by the Asantehene was set-up to help find a solution to the crisis.
